Sr. Hardware Application Engineer
Position Description and Responsibilities:
The Senior Hardware Application Engineer will be working closely with customers to design custom applications utilizing S5 Wireless technology. The position requires a hands-on and self-motivated individual who will be responsible for the process activities from design assistance to full custom devices, which are built to customer specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as technical lead for customer projects.
- Architect designs based on customer specifications (generate schematics, perform layout for each custom design, and interface with mechanical designers to deliver a complete solution).
- Evaluate battery options to meet project specifications.
- Prototype and test each custom design both on the bench and in the field.
- Transition each custom design to customer and resolve any concerns or issues.
- Use lab test equipment and deploy engineering wireless network to reproduce customer operating conditions.
- Review customer schematics/layouts prior to prototyping and quickly identify errors and potential limitations.
- Troubleshoot and help customers solve problems, including initial board/system bring-up.
- Create and support Reference Designs used for product demonstrations and customer development platforms.
- Work closely with internal groups to debug difficult customer issues.
- Provide chip and system level enhancement recommendations based on customer feedback and problem resolution.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and work directly with customer representatives.
- Work with internal design and test teams to develop additional debugging skill sets for field trials and customer platform debugging (including tools, testers, software, analog/RF/digital hardware, and wireless/communications system knowledge).
- Contribute to product definitions evaluating proposed customer system requirements and defining hardware and software features.
Requirements:
- Some travel (domestic and international) to establish and build relationships with major customer accounts for all technical issues.
- Broad knowledge of RF, System, digital hardware and embedded software related to wireless industry.
- Experience with common lab tools such as logic analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
- Experience with external peripherals such as Ethernet controllers, USB controllers, and sensors.
- Experience developing/deploying wireless communications systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills at the board level as well as at the firmware/software level.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written for working with internal and external customers to report progress, identify problems, and manage customer related issues.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Direct R&D experience related to the design, development, integration and testing of wireless consumer products highly desirable.
- Embedded software development skills a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and understand customer applications.
Education/Training:
- Bachelors of Electrical Engineering, Masters or higher degrees an asset
- Minimum of 5 years of design experience
- Prior Application Engineer experience a plus
